MLM Recruiting Secret – Prospects Are Like…Pets?
If you have pets, you know that sometimes they can respond to your moods.
When you’re playful, they’re playful.
When you’re sad, sometimes they’ll come cuddle with you.
And as soon as you grab the leash or say “Time for a walk” your pet will respond to your cues.
How might this help you understand the way you interact with prospects?
Prospects aren’t pets (make this mental note before reading further
), but…
they can be led to feel
excited,
cautious,
even anxious,
and they will base this on readings from your behavior and presentation style.
Let’s start with some obvious basics.
Q: What will happen if you talk to a prospect and you are unsure of yourself and stumbling over your words?
A: Your prospect will likely have a negative reaction and feel uncomfortable and not trust you.
Q: What will happen if you call and you’re
uncontrollably excited,
pushy,
and talking too fast?
A: If you sound like a jerk, they won’t like you. Again, they won’t trust you and you won’t create a genuine relationship.
If you’ve ever adopt a dog with a previous history of abuse…
you know how hard it is for them to trust a caretaker again.
Sometimes they’re triggered into negative behavior when the new owner does something to remind them of any abuse they’ve endured.
Many of your prospects have already been through a lot and they may have built up defenses that could keep you from communicating your message.
Whether you meet them in person or on the phone, you don’t want to incite aggressive or negative behavior.
For the sake of your organization, you want to become an intuitive prospector.
- Get to know that person and gauge his or her temperament before you try to pull them close to your motives and intentions (and they better be honest ones).
- Ask genuine questions.
Genuine questions delve into the details of what that person shares with you. Genuine questions go one level deeper and reveal what’s in that person’s heart and reveal their passions.
Superficial questions will only give you a list of things that person does, but you won’t learn the important “whys” that will help you qualify that person for your opportunity.
When you learn to connect with your prospect, you can get them to feel the same way you do!
SO, make sure you create a good reaction…
Because if you really think about it – your words can have the same effect as a rolled up newspaper.
